Verifying addresses

eMill provides the option to check all addresses (email, fax or SMS) prior to publishing a project. You can specify options used for checking as well as corrective measures. Modifications carried out under these measures will be reflected in the source database.

From the Tools menu, select Verify addresses:

Checking Options:

Verify address syntax:
- Email Address: the criteria are at least one character between two '.', at least one character before the '@', at least one character between '@' and the last '.' and at least one character after the last '.' (no forbidden characters anywhere). If format incorrect, the render skips the record (entry stays in database).
- Fax or Phone Number: All numbers must meet the requirements of the following formats: dialable, canonical or international. If it is not the case, eMill offers a special module to transform your numbers into dialable formats.
Resolve recipient mail server MX record: Checks if the domain name is resolved as a mail server (only available for email addresses).
Connect to mail server and simulate sending: Checks if the mailbox is known at the receiving server (only available for email addresses).
Ignore empty address: The render will skip the record (entry stays in database).

Corrective measures:

Delete the record: If a problem is detected from the options above, the record is deleted from the record list and from the database.
Update field: You can use this option to enter such comments as 'check this address', sort it and fix it later from the database.
Prompt to edit the record: You will have the option to edit the erroneous record as it is detected.
Generate event: Links the error detection to an event handler in the global script.

Removing duplicates: If you can modify the database your project is linked to from the Receivers View, the 'Tools/Remove Duplicates' option may be used. All subsequent records from the list with a similar email address or phone/fax number will be deleted from the Receivers View and from the database.
