Incoming message processing

When a new message is ready to be downloaded or when a message is available for processing in the Inbox folder, various action can be taken. For example, automatic reply to a customer requests, processing unsubscribe requests, processing bounces and many more.

General properties:

From the Project/Incoming messages menu, select the General tab:

Two actions can be taken when a new message arrives in the Inbox folder:

Download properties:

From the Project/Incoming Messages menu, select the Download tab:

Download options let you specify which messages gets downloaded or not from the incoming queues. If a message is not accepted, it will not be downloaded into the project Inbox folder. If at least one project accepts the message, then it will be downloaded and removed from the incoming queue. It is not possible to download and leave a message on the server, the reason for this is that it is not possible to remember messages that have already been read or not.

The following options may be selected:

Incoming queues:

In order to receive messages in the Inbox folder, you must first configure the incoming queues from the options box. Then, you must subscribe your project to the appropriate incoming queue(s). Below, the list displays all the incoming queues available.

Incoming Faxes: When launching the eMill server, a Fax incoming queue is automatically created. It allows eMill to know where incoming faxes are stored (by default C:\Program Files\Active+eMill\Fax\Inbox).

Note: Messages transferred from the incoming queues to the project 'inbox' remain on the server. Deleting the messages as they are retrieved is achieved through scripting using the OnAcceptMail event from the Mailing class. Refer to the global script section.

Testing the incoming messages processing settings:

To test rules or scripts that process incoming messages, you can simulate the reception of new messages. Use the Tools/Simulate incoming messages menu option and select one or more messages (messages must be in MIME format, .eml file).

When simulating incoming messages, actions that only work with a published project will not have any effect (e.g. moving the message to a queue project folder)

Note: the Incoming queues tab will only be displayed on published projects.
