eMill lets you import and add records originating from any data source to the database the project is currently linked to. For instance, if your mailing project is linked to an Access database and you have the rights to modify records in it, you can import additional records from an Oracle database and add them to your Access database using eMill. All records will show from the Receivers View.
From the Receivers View, select the File/Import Addresses option. The wizard is displayed:
Select the type of data source you want to import records from. The wizard will ask you to select the tables that include the database fields to import.
According to the delivery channel you want to use, the email, fax or SMS field is compulsory. The SQL query is generated automatically:
The wizard displays the fields available from the Receivers View, as well as those newly acquired. Highlight the fields from the Linked Fields list and their match from the Receivers Datasource and click on Link to build associations:
Click on Next. The number of all records imported is displayed. Imported records are merged to the Receivers data source.
Merging databases
If your project is linked to a corporate database, you may want to avoid consolidating it with imported records. You should export first the records from your corporate database to a temporary database, re-link your project to the temporary database using the data source wizard, and merge all additional records to the temporary database. The Import Addresses option can be used several times over.
Exporting addresses
From the the receivers view, click on File/Export Addresses to export
all the receivers view records to a temporary database. This feature is useful
when you do not want or cannot modify the database used in your project.
The receivers lists properties or the
black lists properties also offer you the possibility
to export list when publishing. When this option is selected, it is not
necessary to have a permanent connection to the datasources during messages
rendering.
