Using eMill

eMill lets you create any mailing project, from the simplest to the most elaborate ones.

Simple projects are best handled using the full suite of editors and components included with eMill. No specialist skills are required. For the more ambitious projects, some knowledge in scripting, databases and html is preferable.

You can either acquire the set of skills required to perform all tasks, or act as a project manager, using eMill for organizing and centralizing teamwork. In the later case involving collaborative work, files contributed and generated with external applications must conform to the project structure both for naming and / or for file location.

Editing your contents:

If you use the project wizard to create your projects, eMill will automatically add 2 contents. An HTML content and an alternate Text content. The alternate text content is recommended for recipients which cannot or are prevented from reading HTML contents.

You may also add a content at any time by using the New Content wizard. To edit your contents you can either use the eMill integrated editors or you can use your preferred application (Dreamweaver, FrontPage, ...). Once the content is added, you need to configure the content properties and optional conditions.

In order to allow you to transmit to each one of your recipients, a unique and attractive content, eMill provides effective customization tools: inserting a receivers data source field, inserting scripts and activating contents based on conditions.

Editing your receivers list:

eMill can use any kind of data sources (license restriction may apply). All you have to do is to select the database you wish to use when you create a new project or when you add a receivers list.
- If you do not have a database, eMill can create one for you.

- If you have an Excel, Access or Outlook data source.

- If you have a client / server database requiring an ADO connection string such as Oracle or SQL Server.

- If you have a MySQL database.

- If you have an XML data source.
- If you have email addresses in an unstructured text or html file, eMill can import them by recognizing email addresses from the text.

Once you are connected to your data source, you can edit your records directly from the Receivers view. Furthermore, eMill includes a complete set of tools to manage your data sources effectively:
- You can verify the validity of your addresses prior to sending them.
- You can Import and Export your lists.
- You can filter your lists using record fields conditions.

Message Preview:

A preview is accessible at any time to verify how the message will look like for each receiver. The preview includes various mode including a MIME source view, a hierarchy view, a hex view and a source view. You can navigate through each receiver by using the Record toolbar. Alternative ways of previewing a message is either to send a test message (from the Tools menu) to any email address or to use the "Open With Outlook" toolbar button ().

Editing the Global Script:

eMill implements script events that can be used to perform advanced customization on your mailing projects. Refer to the scripting guide for details.

Editing the project properties:

From the project properties, you access all project specific settings such as: General Properties, Receivers Lists Properties, Black Lists Properties, Header Properties, Mailer Properties, Mailer DSN Properties, S/MIME Properties and the Dialing transformation Properties

Processing incoming message:

Accessible from the Design Window or the Queues Window, the 'Incoming Messages' feature will let you configure actions to perform on received messages. For example, you can update a database record when a bounce is received, send auto replies to customers inquiries and much more.
